Boštjan Lačen

Kodila Restaurant »Meet Meat Eat«

Chef with a "meaty" passion for creating unforgettable dining experiences.

About chef

Master of the open flame.

Adventurous and passionate, Boštjan Lačen is always exploring new ingredients, techniques, and culinary traditions. He finds joy in creating dishes that bring happiness to others, striving to craft a dining experience that feels as warm and welcoming as home. At Kodila, he specializes in meat delicacies, particularly steaks cooked over an open fire.

Favourite dish
Bujta repa (hot pot made of sour turnip, millet porridge and pork)

A simple, traditional dish and part of the sausage-making tradition (koline).

Favourite ingredient
Mangalica pork lardo

It combines well with sweet, salty and fresh flavours.

Boštjan’s path to the kitchen is a bit different. His journey began with a passion for cooking in his teenage years, influenced by his time as a scout, his love for nature and people, his passion for music and creative hobbies, and his involvement in community work at the local youth centre. He felt at home in the kitchen and cooking quickly became his calling, leading him to a professional career. He also began advising many local restaurants on menu development.

»You take something with you, hopefully, you leave something good behind.«
Anthony Bourdain

This quote by Antony Bourdain is particularly inspiring to Boštjan, who believes that every interaction, experience or event leaves a mark on the individual involved and at the same time has an impact on the environment or the people they meet. He believes that from every situation, one gains knowledge or a new experience in the hope of leaving a positive impression or contribution that will benefit others or improve the situation.

Different paths to Kodila

Boštjan prefers to stay close to the local cuisine. He loves traditional dishes and gives them a modern, original and sometimes daring twist. His style combines rural ingredients with urban techniques. He constantly strives to surprise his guests with dishes that showcase a unique approach, blending the past with the future and merging local flavours with global influences. His passion for cooking is deeply rooted in the flavours and memories of his grandmother’s and mother’s kitchens and the beautiful plains of Prekmurje.

Boštjan Lačen brings his own unique inspiration and enthusiasm to the table. He creates delicious and bold combinations that attract guests from near and far.
