There are two ways to enjoy an Istrian breakfast. You order it in advance, and then it will either be served to you on the terrace of the Small houses of Slovenian Istria, or delivered to nearby accommodations that are connected to the project. These can be either different boutique villas with pools, Istrian-style houses, or private apartments with rustic flair. All charming environments that make the large breakfast taste even better. In fact, the breakfast is so generous that you can also divide it into meals and it can double as a snack on the go.

Classic or vegetarian?

You can choose between a classic and a vegetarian Istrian breakfast. Both versions are made from delicious products from local farms. The heart of the breakfast is the Istrian bread, traditionally baked from home-ground semi-white flour with salt from Piran and extra-virgin olive oil from Slovenian Istria.

Depending on the selected version, the breakfast also includes cow cheese from a local farm, home-made “fragola” grape jam, different dried organic fruits, such as persimmon, figs, prunes, pears, kiwi and apples, Istrian honey and herbal tea, made from a blend of plantain, primrose, and nettle.

The classic Istrian breakfast also comes with Istrian salami and pancetta from an organic farm, where they carefully guard the secret house recipe for their air-cured meats, just like every other local farm. The vegetarian option will delight you with cottage cheese made from cow’s milk, as well as seasonal vegetables, such as tomatoes, cucumber, aubergine, courgettes or peppers, and fruit, such as cherries, watermelon, melon, figs, apples, grapes, and apricots, all grown at local farms.

The basis of Istrian cuisine is definitely the locally made olive oil. Let the olive growers behind the Carcauec brand show you the mysteries of olive oil. After a ride in a 4×4 off-road vehicle, you can take a romantic walk through an olive grove planted as an engagement present, enjoy the smell of lavender growing in it, and meet the four ponies that graze there. No visit to the olive grove would be complete without tasting the extra-virgin olive oil and home-made brine-pickled olives, and they also like to offer their unique persimmon vinegar. The experience ends with their natural cosmetic products, where olive oil is an important ingredient.
