Odprta kuhna (the Open kitchen) is a popular food market that operates from spring until autumn, bringing you new, tasty experiences from near and far. On sunny Fridays, you can visit it in the capital, but occasionally it also pops up in marketplaces of some other Slovenian towns.
Wandering among the stalls, you can breathe in fresh air and enjoy the colourful street food from all corners of the world, local and regional specialities, modern masterpieces, and refreshing drinks. Odprta kuhna is an open-air food market where everyone can find something to their taste. Different food providers from all parts of Slovenia come together with their delicious food and drinks, which bring something extra to a quick work break, a family lunch, or a dinner date.
Since its beginning in 2013, Odprta kuhna has seen several successful seasons, and its visitors have been served by more than 300 food and drink providers from all over Slovenia. It has quickly become a favourite among the locals and the tourists in Ljubljana, and it is always warmly welcomed in other Slovenian towns. In previous seasons, Odprta kuhna made a guest appearance in the marketplaces of Slovenj Gradec, Koper, Celje, Nova Gorica, Vipava, Novo mesto and Ptuj.
Since the very beginning, the organisers focused on three criteria when selecting the providers. Quality is of course the most important, closely followed by creative menu selection, and the presentation of food and drinks. It is important that the providers offer a unique selection of food and drinks, and that they bring something new to Odprta kuhna. The organisers only accept the best, whether that is traditional Slovenian cuisine, classic street food, or dishes from all corners of the world. Several of the popular providers have been with Odprta kuhna for years, but new ones are welcomed to the fold every season.

Odprta kuhna is committed to sustainability. Setting a positive example, Odprta kuhna tries to change the habits of its visitors and providers. Every year, they develop their environmentally-friendly food market concept even further. For years, they have been diligent about separating waste and raising visitors’ awareness on how to include environmentally responsible practices in everyday life. The providers serve food and drinks in returnable or biodegradable containers, and all the ingredients and meals that remain at the end of the day are picked up by the Slovene Philanthropy, and distributed to people in need.
In Ljubljana, Odprta kuhna has become synonymous with relaxed Friday gatherings, whether for a quick lunch break with colleagues, or to leisurely welcome the weekend with a group of friends, good food and good drinks. Whether you are hungry or just curious, Odprta kuhna is something you simply must experience!
