The hospitality of villages and cellars of the Karst

Wine and culinary experiences

The Karst prosciutto (Kraški pršut) and dark ruby Teran wine are not the only reasons to wander around the Terra Rossa - the red earth. Guided experiences invite you to a jam academy, vineyard harvests, wine tastings, cured meats, brandy tastings, visits to beekeepers and much more.

The Karst region’s unspoilt nature offers endless opportunities for wandering and exploring, for activity, for curiosity or for rest. Whatever you do, you will be accompanied by genuine Karst hospitality everywhere. With a glass of local wine or brandy and a taste of delicious local dishes, you will feel the soul of our world. Karst is picturesque. Experience all its nuances.

The refined tastes of Karst on lavender fields

The experience is the result of a collaboration of two exquisite homesteads. Bučeva domačija (Buč Homestead) is known for lavender fields, processed around Ivanji Grad, and the Špacapan House, which is known for excellent and original dishes, prepared from local ingredients. You will start the day with a tour of the lavender fields and learn about the different types of lavender, followed by a demonstration of the distillation process and a lecture on essential oils and hydrolats. A tour of the Buč Homestead is followed by a Špacapan meal, whether breakfast, lunch, or dinner, served in the lavender fields surrounded by the scent of lavender.

Smell and taste Karst

Your day in the Karst region will be spent in the company of herbs. You will start at the Risnik Karst and Natural History Trail and continue at the Belaj Homestead Herb Garden in Kačiče. You will be accompanied by Bogdan Macarol, a biologist and local tourist guide, as you learn about Karst herbs. The experience continues with herbs on a plate. This is followed by a tasting lunch at Gostilna Mahorčič in Rodik, which has been awarded the Michelin 2021 Bib Gourmand and Pictogram of Sustainability awards. Finish the experience with a gin tasting.
