A restaurant with tradition

Danilo is a restaurant with tradition run today by the third generation of the Čarman family. It is located in Reteče between Medvode and Škofja Loka.

The culinary story began with the grandparents of Nina and Gašper Čarman, the brother and sister who currently run the restaurant. The grandparents were succeeded by Vesna and Dušan who further built the restaurant’s reputation and good name.

Wining and dining at Danilo is still excellent today. The renovated restaurant and wine shop justify their former glory, and even bring it up to date. The cosy restaurant welcomes you with a long bar. The dining room is bright and elegant but still nice and warm. The terrace continues onto a green atrium garden.

They serve indigenous Škofja Loka and Gorenjska dishes with a modern and playful twist. In practice, this means that you will not leave here without tasting Loka medla. One of Danilo’s oldest rural dishes made of buckwheat porridge and crackling dressing is a real treat. It is served with cream sauce and black truffles.

The menu also includes some first-class cosmopolitan dishes that leave even the greatest gourmets speechless. Foie gras with peach and hazelnuts is one of them.

The tasting menu for gourmets and foodies may have four, five or nine courses.

The best wines from everywhere

The wine shop with over 700 labels, to which sommelier Gašper skilfully adds new ones, deserves a special mention.

You can choose from selected wines from around the world, including 1.5 litre magnums. A wide range of top Slovenian wines, including their own brand named Gašper, is also on offer.

Meet the chef

She continues her family tradition with dedication.

Nina Čarman represents the third generation of hospitality workers in her family.

Most of her dishes are based on old and well-tested recipes and local ingredients.

One of the dishes she is particularly proud of is the traditional Škofja Loka dish loška medla, which she refines with the addition of truffles and her secret ingredient – hospitality.
