Pohorje recipes straight from Mama Justa’s kitchen.
On the edge of the picturesque Pohorje village of Gorenje near Zreče, nestled among endless forests at 760 meters above sea level, stands Gostilna Smogavc. From here, the view stretches across the wider Dravinja Valley, from the Drava–Ptuj Plain all the way to Zagreb’s Sljeme.
Most of the recipes for traditional dishes—such as mushroom soup with buckwheat dumplings, game goulash, wild game, homemade cheese and buckwheat štruklji, seasonal local slaughter specialties, and blueberry strudel—still carry the signature of Mama Justa.
They swear by ingredients from their own farm, including select meats, vegetables, fruits, preserved goods, as well as products from local suppliers and nearby farms. Guests are also happily offered a variety of homemade spirits and juices.
Their offerings are drawn primarily from the local heritage of Pohorje and traditional recipes of the region. Additional dishes are created using local and seasonal ingredients, and guests are also treated to festive specialties, such as those for St. Martin’s Day, St. Gregory’s Day, Easter, and more.
Accommodations are available in rooms and apartments, including unique apartments in a traditional hayrack! The spaces are furnished in authentic Pohorje style, featuring solid wood from the Pohorje forests.

A team that creates dishes with a deep love for nature.
The heart of the inn is the kitchen, where Mama Justa’s family recipes, local and seasonal ingredients, and the unique touches of a well-coordinated culinary team come together. The core team has been creating dishes together for over twenty years, enriched by numerous young chefs who bring a fresh approach to every meal.
Her daughter, Irena Smogavc, the founder of Gostilna Smogavc and its first head chef, worked together with her mother, Justa, and another cook at the inn, Ančka, to perfect the dishes. Today, these recipes are still renowned far and wide and have become synonymous with Smogavc’s local cuisine.
