Krasna House

  • MICHELIN GUIDE 2023

A culinary journey around the Karst

Krasna House is a boutique family hotel with a first-class restaurant and an authentic wine room.

Lokev lies somewhere along the way through the picturesque landscape. Lokev is a village that boasts the oldest prosciutto factory in the Karst and Krasna House, where you can enjoy splendid food.

At the house, you will be welcomed by a pleasant dining room with tables covered with white tablecloths and set with wooden chairs. A stone wall, pendant lights and a wooden cupboard will evoke a feeling of authentic Karst homeliness. On warm days, the dining room stretches into the patio by the house set with wonderful wooden shutters.

Expect a culinary journey around the Karst, as the restaurant’s menu combines the traditional ingredients of the Karst and the wild flavours of Istria. The principle of chef Aleš Širca, who enjoys Mediterranean cuisine, is modern and homemade.

Wine lovers will be fascinated by the wine room, which has been dug into the karst stone. Here, in the pleasant coolness, you can taste wines from the Karst and other Slovenian wine-growing regions and enjoy the flavours of the Karst prosciutto, homemade pancetta and fresh bread from a wood-fired oven.

If the tasting continues well into the night, you can sleep in one of five guest rooms. They have beautiful Slovenian female names and are furnished in different colours. There are no electronic devices in the rooms, so guests can escape completely from daily worries.

Homemade with a modern twist

Chef Širca’s dishes have the Karst character in terms of tradition and ingredients and a modern character in terms of their realisation and ideas. The dishes are seasonal and most ingredients come from a neighbour.

Try beef carpaccio with fennel, truffles and roasted hazelnuts or excellent Karst jota with potato cream, sour turnip and bean purée, which the chef combines with a mackerel fillet and trout roe.

If you feel like dining on Karst pig, go for it. This traditional dish is slowly roasted, without bones and served in its own sauce reduction and is perfectly paired with a slice of juicy apple, sweet carrot purée and lentils.
