Torkla House

  • MICHELIN GUIDE 2022

Genuine flavours of Istria and the best meat far and wide

The most beautiful restaurant on the edge of Istria, which fascinates with incredible flavours.

Torkla House is located in picturesque Korte edge of Slovenian Istria. The cosy Istrian village is surrounded by vineyards and Mediterranean greenery. The scent of the nearby sea brought here on the breeze is mixed with the scent of lavender. If you are looking for peace and a meditative break far from the madding crowd, you will love Korte.

Alluring scents also waft from Torkla run by Sebastijan and Andreja Kovačič. Grilled meat is their trademark, although it is matched by Istrian delicacies from the sea and soil. Chef Sebastijan is the master of the grill and kitchen, while Andreja ably takes care of the relaxed atmosphere and well-being of their guests.

Torkla is not only known for its excellent food but also for its ambience. The former oil mill has undergone a well-thought-out renovation, and if it were to be described in a single word, it would simply be “beautiful”.

Istrian stone, solid wood, and elegant lines form a combination that places Torkla among the most beautiful restaurants far and wide. A view of the surrounding Istrian hills where ingredients for their cuisine originate is similarly unforgettable.

Dressed with love and truffles

Top cuisine does not exist without first-class ingredients. At Torkla, a modern take on Primorska cuisine is based on local, fresh ingredients and produce, and carefully selected pieces of the best meat.

They are particularly praised for their grilled beef, described by meat lovers only with superlatives. It is famous for its juiciness and tenderness: the meat just melts in your mouth.

Besides meat, other typical flavours of Istria are equally represented on a short but exquisite menu. Pick a tasting menu and learn about them. Fresh fish, pasta, truffles, asparagus, and other home-made delicacies on carefully considered plates come to life in completely new culinary experiences.
