Among the fields and vineyards of Brežice

From pitchfork to forks, from heart to plate

On the edge of the village near Brežice, where fields meet forests and vineyards, stands Tourist Farm Pri Martinovih – a place where nature sets the rhythm, and the kitchen translates it into flavor. Here, an ecological philosophy thrives, not hidden behind grand words but lived in everyday practice: whatever grows in the fields makes its way to the plate, and whatever remains returns to the soil or the animals.

A farm that breathes with the seasons

Heritage doesn’t live in books but in the bread oven and on guests’ tables.

At Pri Martinovih, there is no menu carved in stone. The offerings change with the seasons—sometimes even week to week. In spring, the air fills with the aroma of wild garlic, known as “green gold”; in summer, potatoes and buckwheat reign; and in autumn, meat raised on the farm itself takes center stage. Guests come not just for a meal, but for an encounter with nature, tradition, and heartfelt authenticity.

Ajdov potancelj—a nearly forgotten dish of buckwheat and cottage cheese—finds new life here. Bread, baked the old-fashioned way, carries the scent of childhood and memories. Every bite is a tribute to grandmothers who knew how to create warmth at home from the simplest ingredients.

Who creates your meal

Living by the Circle of Nature

Respect for the land in every bite

Here, sustainability is not a trend but a way of life. The water used to wash the salad waters the herb garden. Food scraps become feed for the chickens or compost. Plastic has no place in the dining room, and guests are encouraged to take only as much at breakfast as they will eat. This is not just responsibility—it is a sincere respect for the land that gives.
