Enjoy the tranquility, authentic local flavours, colours and beauties of the outermost hill of Goriška brda, from where the view reaches far to the Friuli plain towards Kanin and the Dolomites, and with a little effort even to the Adriatic Sea.
Sisters Mirela and Adrijana Peresin have been writing the story of the Breg tourist farm for almost three decades. Renovated with details of a typical old Brda house, and surrounded by flowers, greenery, fruit, olives and vineyards, it attracts many satisfied visitors. As guests prefer dishes made from local and seasonal ingredients with a touch of homeliness and tradition, they have become a constant feature of the menu.
Old recipes of typical Brda and Friulian cuisine, with lots of herbs, are the kinds of authentic flavours that define the cuisine created by Mirela and Adrijana. Farm fresh eggs, homegrown herbs from the herb garden, wild shoots and lavender from the field. Homegrown vegetables, meat and wine, home-made jams, honey, pasta and bread. A speciality of the farm are its pot barley dishes with vegetables, seasonal minestrone soups, traditional “frtalja” egg dishes, Friulian frico (fried potatoes with three types of cheese and white polenta), gnocchi stuffed with aromatic herbs and fruits, grandma’s “toč” with prosciutto and white polenta in milk sauce, lasagne (also pasticho) with seasonal vegetables and seasonal chestnut and pumpkin dishes. In autumn, the most popular dish is chestnut minestrone with porcini mushrooms, which are collected under the chestnut trees around the house. There are also many delicious desserts like “štruklji”, fruit desserts, or various cheeses with home-made honey of many varieties, including floral, acacia, chestnut or linden.
In harmony with the Brda environment, nature, and the cuisine of their grandmothers, they provide an authentic lunch experience, as their grandparents once would have had in the vineyards. Instead of a table, they prepare a blanket in a nearby meadow under an olive tree for a romantic meal for two. The delicacies are put in a basket, and on the short path to the olive grove, the couple are accompanied by the chirping of birds, and hearts woven from willow branches. The path takes you past a lavender field to an olive grove with a beautiful view of the Idrija valley and beyond.
Mirela Peresin is dedicated to home-made, local and seasonal food, and draws inspiration from a rich treasury of traditional and homely recipes.
Both sisters, Mirela and Adrijana, make sure that the delicacies come to the table straight from the forests, fields, orchards and gardens. From these, Mirela prepares excellent dishes adored by everyone.
