FrikaFest

A special day of treats for cheese and frika lovers in Tolmin.

Tolmin will be buzzing with excitement on 10 October. This weekend marks the symbolic return of the shepherds from the high-altitude pastures, where they have spent the whole summer churning milk in small mountain communities whilst their livestock grazed freely on the finest vegetation between the Alps and the Mediterranean. The people of Tolmin have combined the traditional Farmers’ Festival with a celebration of the Posočje speciality, frika, bringing the two together as FrikaFest. At the event, visitors will be able to sample the unique cheeses of the Soča Valley, led by Tolminec, which is one of Slovenia’s most recognisable indigenous cheeses.
