Chef Tomaž Kavčič’s unique cuisine for an unforgettable experience.
The Zemono Renaissance Manor which is home to Gostilna Pri Lojzetu is an astonishing backdrop for the culinary creations of Chef Tomaž Kavčič. The mighty building sitting on a hill is surrounded by external arcades and a well-maintained lawn. A magnificent view of the Vipava Valley foretells an exciting experience even before you smell the food.
The Vipava Valley has an important role in cuisine. It is home to the ingredients and flavours that Chef Tomaž transforms into masterpieces. The pioneer of slow food in Slovenia and a Slovenian culinary legend keeps creating new plates or, should we say, collections of dishes.
His menus are harmonious and composed of the finest, most often local, ingredients. Some of his creations have been met with such approval that they have become almost traditional. Beef cheek cooked for almost 13 hours, dry jota (sauerkraut and potato stew), and roast beef roasted in a barrique, to name only a few.
“We strive to make today’s creativity a tradition,” says Tomaž. Wine lovers are also exceptionally well taken care of. The wine list contains over 600 labels.
Named Best Slovenian Restaurant 2020 by the international gastronomic guide Gault & Millau 2020 Gostilna Pri Lojzetu deserves its title for its atmosphere created by the charming chef and extraordinary staff.
You do not go to the Zemono Manor just to eat. You go there for an experience, pleasure, memories, and unforgettable moments.
Pri Lojzetu offers its own cuisine with a strong connection to the Vipava Valley and the gifts brought by the different seasons.
Tomaž’s passion for creation does not end with food. His Monologue gin ranked among eight of the best spirits in the world at the Great American International Spirits Competition. It is made of top-quality grains and distillates of natural extracts from juniper berries and selected herbs.
He transforms his deep respect and admiration for “his" Vipava Valley onto plates.
Hospitality is in his genes. The manor has been home to Gostilna pri Lojzetu for more than twenty years since they moved from their restaurant in Dornberk. The family’s hospitality tradition stretches back four generations, as the Kavčičs stepped onto this path in 1897.
He is a member of two associations of gastronomy, Chaîne des Rôtisseurs and Le Soste, and a winner of the JRE Innovation Award.
He is ranked among the 100 best chefs in the world, who are selected by chefs, culinary connoisseurs, and followers of The Best Chef on social media.
