Jožef

  • MICHELIN GUIDE 2023

A combination of tradition and modernity

The boutique hotel with a restaurant first surprises with its ‘homely’ name.

But behind it, there is a story that is deeply connected with the local community – Jožef is a tribute to all Idrija’s Jožefs, who over the years has created Idrija’s story in history and in one way or another left their mark in Idrija.

The hotel’s design is modern and sustainable, while reflecting the spirit of the Idrija heritage. The façade, with its unique shape of a furnace, is a tribute to the mining tradition of Idrija.

The Jožef restaurant symbolically represents a tie between the past and the future. Its interior is modern and elegant. Wooden elements and curtains that encircle large windows add softness and a feeling of homeliness to it.

The menu comprises both modern dishes with a Mediterranean touch and traditional dishes from the Idrija region. Trying traditional Idrija žlikrofi is something you just cannot miss when you are in town.

The Jožef restaurant has its own wine shop with around 75 types of wine including renowned Slovenian organic wines.

The culinary tradition of the Mediterranean and local cuisine

They prepare characteristic local dishes, such as žlikrofi, smukavc and zeljševka by themselves. You can also try homemade Idrija žlikrofi, which are prepared in the Jožef restaurant as certified producers according to a traditional recipe and in a traditional way.

Mediterranean dishes are simple and their flavours are pure. The ingredients are superb, fresh and seasonal. When creating plates, they also stick to the fact that we first eat with our eyes, only then do they come to the type of palates.

Their dish žlikrofi with bakalca made from lamb in a crunchy bowl is particularly well-known and esteemed.

Meet the chef

They swear by the aesthetic perfection of plates.

Team of young chefs bases the concept of the restaurant menu at Hotel Jožef on fresh ingredients and the fact that we also eat with our eyes.

Chefs, who get their insipration from their local environment and tradition, are daily creating colourful and tasteful plates.

They proudly say that all the dishes in their kitchen are created without any additives or pre-prepared shop-bought elements.
