Mak Restaurant

  • MICHELIN GUIDE 2021

Let the show begin

When visiting Mak, abandon all your expectations and indulge in (culinary) surprises. Extravagance is not merely a form here, but content above all.

The most extravagant restaurant in Slovenia will provide sheer culinary delight.
You won’t find it by coincidence. The exterior of the restaurant located at Pobrežje in Maribor shows no sign that you’re about to experience a superb artistic performance. Accompanied by delicious food, of course.

The interesting and tastefully furnished dining room looks more promising, but still serves as a minor backdrop for the show experienced by your senses.

Expect a varied, bold, rich, fresh and delicious experience, which will also awaken your other senses and feelings. On their website, they announce it as: “You cannot stay unintoxicated from the journey that is about to unfold…”

Once left to the artistic guidance of chef David Vračko, the show begins. Through the gourmet show, you are led without a menu and with unconventional service reminiscent of improvisation. But not quite. The surprises that follow are certainly not coincidental.

The sequence of dishes and symphony of flavours is the result of accurate calculations. The variables affecting the content of plates are daily fresh ingredients, and the time the guest is prepared to spend in Mak. The chef’s technical perfection, creativity and skilful knowledge are constants.

A true disconnection

Delicious creations combine flavours, textures and colours. Harmonised or in perfect contrast with plates and dishes, even sounds and visual details contribute to the experience for all senses.

Visit Mak to feed your soul in addition to your stomach and for supreme pampering of your taste buds. Enjoy the show and prepare for an easily digestible and a hard-to-forget culinary experience. Be it a light lunch, a longer daytime indulgence or an evening tasting menu.

Enjoy your food and the artistic performance.

Meet the chef

Culinary miracle

Talented, wild, ambitious, modest and funky are the most frequent adjectives to describe chef David Vračko.

The Slovenian culinary scene equates chef David Vračko to a culinary miracle. But a great love for cooking, an intelligent spirit and long years of schooling are hidden behind this miracle.

He’s been stirring the wooden spoon in his family inn together with brother Gregor, now an excellent chef in Hiša Denk.

Vračko has worked in the best restaurants in Vienna, Switzerland, Norway, Portugal, Majorca, Spain and South Africa. After ten years, he returned to Maribor where he began his own culinary story.
