Sunrose 7 Restaurant Bohinj

Gastronomic pampering and digital detox

Many things have changed since 1890. What has remained is the enticingly fragrant coffee, exceptional service and excellent food.

In the shade of chestnut trees, in the garden in Bohinjska Bistrica by Ceconi Park and the river Belca, there is a restaurant that has been serving guests since 1890. It was once part of the then famous Hotel Markeš, which has since been replaced by the completely renovated boutique hotel Sunrose 7. It offers guests a digital detox experience for people over 18 years of age. It’s a break from life’s worries and wild daily schedules that lets you enjoy life in the moment and indulge in great cuisine.

A century-old tradition, with a lot of love and a modern touch, forms the core of the restaurant’s culinary offer, which, like the hotel, is intended only for those over 18 years of age. They don’t have a permanent menu at Sunrose 7, as they believe the best dishes are those that come from the heart, and the baskets and crates of local food producers. They take care to maintain short supply chains and follow the zero waste principle. Their dishes always include fresh, seasonal and sustainably grown ingredients.

A cup of coffee with Franz Ferdinand

With the development of tourism in Bohinj, the word of good food and friendly service spread quickly, and attracted Austro-Hungarian dignitaries to the hotel and restaurant. The most famous of them was crown prince Franz Ferdinand, who visited the hotel for the opening of the Bohinj railway in 1906.

Coffee consumption was already of great cultural significance in the time of Franz Ferdinand. At Sunrose 7, they remain aware of this, so very special attention has been paid to their coffee selection. They offer the highest-grade Arabica coffee, which is only available to select cafes. The coffee is grown on the hillsides of North and South America and Africa, with only the best beans making the cut. They say that “when it comes to coffee, you first work with your heart, then with your head, and last but not least, with attentiveness and respect for the process of production.”

Who creates your meal

Bohinj is an inspiration and a passion

After thirty-five years of experience, Marija Kovačič, nicknamed Mici, took on a new challenge.

The Sunrose 7 kitchen’s dishes are the result of the collaboration between chef Marija Kovačič and young cooks Anže Kuster and Blaž Sever. Marija has 35 years of experience working in hotel kitchens, with the boutique story of the Sunrose 7 hotel offering her a new and exciting challenge. She draws inspiration from the beautiful nature surrounding Bohinj and makes the fresh and at first glance simple local ingredients come alive.

Her right-hand men in the kitchen – Anže and Blaž – love modern presentation and unexpected combinations. They are fascinated by modern food preparation techniques. This youthful outlook on the food experience perfectly completes the creativity in the Sunrose 7 kitchen.
