The Park Café

Home of the original Bled cream cake

Taste the queen of Bled sweets in a café with a local alpine atmosphere and a beautiful view of Bled.

The pearl of the Slovenian Alps, Bled, is also known for its Bled cream cake, or “kremšnita”, as the locals call it. Confectioners of the Park Hotel have been preparing the original Bled cream cake by hand since 1953. More than 15 million have been made since then, and the manufacturing process has remained unchanged. The original “kremšnita” is made from natural ingredients and does not contain any food colouring, preservatives or other additives, so it must be prepared fresh daily.

One piece measures exactly seven by seven by seven centimetres, and has four layers. On a baked base of puff pastry made with butter, not margarine, is the delicious vanilla custard. The custard is allowed to boil for exactly seven minutes, and while still hot, they fold in the meringue made from beaten egg whites. When completely cooled, they top it with sweet whipped cream, cover it with another layer of crispy puff pastry, and sprinkle vanilla icing sugar on top.

They say that a visit to Bled is not complete if you don’t indulge in a Bled cream cake. And most of them are eaten right in their home – at the Kavarna Park café on the Bled promenade!

The best ice cream destination in the world also offers other dishes

With the help of Sladogled, an ice cream flavour prepared in the confectionery workshop of the Park Hotel, Bled also appeared on the map of chilled dessert lovers by becoming the best ice cream destination in the world in 2017. The winning scoop thus captured the personality traits of the typical Bled visitor. The Sladogled flavour consists of three layers: dark chocolate with raw cocoa beans, pampering the guests who come to Bled to enjoy the beautiful nature; quinoa ice cream with almonds, cinnamon and raisins stimulates the parts of their soul that came to Bled looking for motivation and revitalisation; and the rich mascarpone caresses their romantic side.

While enjoying the most beautiful view of the Bled landscape from Kavarna Park, you can also enjoy some less sweet options. The menu includes a Bled Local Selection Certificate plate with Gorenjska home-made meats such as cured pork, venison salami, capocollo, minced lard, local cheeses and pickled vegetables.

You can also order a bowl of hot soup, such as traditional Slovenian beef soup, or one of the main dishes, such as pasta, dumplings, as well as steaks or fish. They also offer breakfast, salads, and a varied selection of delicious sandwiches made from local ingredients.
